Chances are, you hadn't heard of Aaron Collins until just a few weeks ago. If you still haven't, allow me to share. Collins was a Lexington, Kentucky, man who, sadly, passed away last month at the age of 29 -- but not before putting something in motion that's resulted in a truly inspirational legacy.
What exactly was Aaron Collins' final wish? Tip a waiter or a waitress, and not just a little -- a lot. As in, give the server $500. Aaron's brother, Seth Collins, was all too happy to carry out that wish. Now, millions know about "Aaron's Last Wish" and are donating money so more good deeds can happen. When Seth Collins' brother died, he knew he'd honor Aaron's request to give a server a big tip. Fortunately, when he carried out Aaron's wish, he videotaped the whole thing. Little did Seth Collins know what he'd set in motion. Seth explained that the whole tipping $500 to a waiter or waitress was all about random acts of kindness and generosity. On an official website, the Collins family explained that they hoped to raise more money, so they could tip more people.
What happened next? The video clip that Seth Collins posted, showing him tipping shocked waitress Chelsea Powell at Lexington's Puccini's Smiling Teeth pizza joint, went viral. Well over 2.2 million people have seen the clip since it was posted on YouTube on July 11, 2012.
As the money keeps pouring in, Aaron Collins' family keeps tipping. By early-August of 2012, more than $50,000 in donations were raised. According to Seth Collins, they now have enough money to give away a massive new tip each week for two years!
